Short Version

Celestun

For the traveler seeking quiet communion with the nature of coastal Yucatan, the small, modest fishing town of Celestún offers the perfect setting. Miles of deserted beaches offer rewarding explorations for the beach comber. The nearby 146,000 acre Biosphere Reserve gives birders the chance to see the American Flamingo as well as 300 other species of birds, including cormorants, pelicans and herons. Crocodiles patrol the estuaries. Four kinds of sea turtles nest on the beaches, while boa constrictors rule the scrub and marshland. And after the adventures of the day, several open-air restaurants offer cold beer and heaping platters of freshly caught seafood.
