Short Version

The Art of the Crucifix In Latin America

Placing Jesus before the people, Pilate asked the fate of Jesus, who purported to be the Son of God, and the reply came as a roar. “Crucify him! Let him be crucified!” Since then Christ has been crucified millions of times in the realm of religious iconography. In Latin America, the crucifixion is depicted in silver, clay, tile, flowers, precious stones and even bottle caps. Whatever the medium, the crucifixes reflect the influence of Catholicism and the people’s devotion to a Christ that died on the cross for their sins.
