Salvador Dalí

Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí was born on May 11, 1904, in Figueras, a little village in Spain, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, sixteen miles from the French border in the region known as Catalonia. Dalí attended the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid where his talent was quickly recognized. His first one-man show was held in Barcelona in 1925. In 1928 he won international fame at the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh. Dalí went to Paris where he met Gala Eluard who was to become his lover, muse, manager and source of inspiration. They were married in 1934. During World War II Dalí and Gala took refuge in the United States, returning to Spain after the war. Ever flamboyant and with a flair for publicity, Dalí became a prolific artist of international fame.

Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí nació el 11 de mayo de 1904 en Figueras, un pueblo pequeño de España, localizado en las faldas de los Montes Pirineos, a 25 kilómetros de la frontera con Francia, en la región conocida con el nombre de Cataluña. Dalí asistió a la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando en Madrid, donde rápidamente demostró su talento. Dalí se presentó por primera vez en 1925 en Barcelona. Ganó fama internacional en la “Carnegie International Exhibition” en 1928 en Pittsburgh. Dalí fue a Paris; conoció a Gala Eluard.
